The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) is a dynamic and unique grouping of academic disciplines of study within the realm of Social Sciences. It was established in 2010 as an Academic Department (ACAD) of the then National Defence College (NDC) and was later renamed the FSS upon transformation to the Zimbabwe National Defence University (ZNDU) in 2017. In sync with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development’s policy thrust on Education 5.0, the Faculty nurtures research, teaching, community service, innovation and industrialisation as tenets to all its academic programmes and thus being catalytic to national development. This is aided by the adoption of a multi-disciplinary approach in all the academic programmes and also the pursuance of developmental projects with interested progressive partners, as part of its community service endeavours.

In line with its ten-year strategic plan (2019-2029) the Faculty envisages operationalizing more Departments with an increase to a minimum of 3 academic programmes per department. The Faculty currently has two (2) operational departments namely, Peace and Security Studies Department and Political Science Department.
